A quiet hour in the park, at no cost

London moves fast. Trains, screens, deadlines, and a mind that is still running long after the working day has ended.

These classes are the opposite of that. Gentle yoga on the grass, simple breathing, and a guided meditation to finish. No studio, no membership, no one watching how flexible you are.

American Baba grew up in the ashrams of Rishikesh and taught for ten years in New York and ten years in London. The park classes are that lineage, offered freely to the city.

Where we practise in London

Three parks across the city. Times and meeting points shift with the season and the weather, so message on WhatsApp for the next session.

South West London

Richmond Park

Wide open grass, old oaks, and deer in the distance. The quietest of the three, and the best place for a longer practice with a proper meditation sit at the end.

Nearest arrival: Richmond or Mortlake station, then a short walk into the park

Central London

Hyde Park

Central and easy to reach from anywhere on the tube. Good if you want to practise before work or fit a session around a day in town.

Nearest arrival: Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch, or Lancaster Gate

North West London

Regent's Park

Sheltered lawns and gardens, calm even on busier weekends. A gentle, friendly room for anyone coming to their first class.

Nearest arrival: Regent's Park, Great Portland Street, or Baker Street

What a class looks like

Gentle hatha yoga

Slow, breath-led movement taught the way it is taught in Rishikesh. No pretzel shapes, no pressure to keep up with anyone.

Pranayama and breathwork

Simple breathing practices that settle the nervous system, so the mind is quieter before you sit.

Guided meditation

Every session ends with a sit. You are talked through it, so there is nothing to figure out on your own.

Yoga Nidra and deep rest

Some sessions close with guided deep relaxation. Bring a layer to stay warm while you lie down.

Before you come

What to bring

  • A yoga mat, or a towel or blanket if you do not have one
  • Clothes you can move in, plus a warm layer for the meditation
  • Water, and a small cushion if sitting on the ground is hard for you
  • Nothing else. There is no fee, no membership, and no booking form

Frequently asked questions

Free yoga and meditation in London, answered

Are the London yoga and meditation classes really free?

Yes. American Baba organises the park classes in London as free community sessions. There is no fee, no membership, and no pressure to donate. Any donations that are offered fund our scholarship program.

Which London parks do you meet in?

Richmond Park, Hyde Park, and Regent's Park. The exact meeting spot inside each park and the time depend on the season and the weather, so message us on WhatsApp and you will be sent the details for the next session.

How do I find out the next class time?

Message +44 7526 344 115 on WhatsApp. You will get the park, the meeting point, and the start time for the next session, plus a message if anything changes because of weather.

I am a complete beginner. Can I still come?

Yes, and most people arrive as beginners. The practice is gentle hatha yoga, simple breathing, and guided meditation. Everything is explained out loud as you go, and you can rest at any point.

Do I need to book?

No booking system. Just message on WhatsApp so we know roughly how many mats to expect, then turn up.

What happens if it rains?

London being London, sessions sometimes move or shift to the online class instead. Anyone on the WhatsApp list is told in advance, so you never travel for nothing.

I live elsewhere in the UK. Can I join?

Yes. There are free morning classes online, so you can practise from anywhere in the UK on UK time. Message on WhatsApp and you will be sent the link and the start time.

What should I bring to a park class?

A mat, or a towel or blanket if you do not own one. Wear clothes you can move in and bring a warm layer for the meditation at the end, since you cool down quickly once you stop moving.

Who teaches the classes?

American Baba, who grew up in the ashrams of Rishikesh and then taught for ten years in New York and ten years in London. The London park classes come out of those years of teaching here.
